Nandana Sen No To Nudity
Nandana Sen has said no to an offer for international movie to be directed by Italian director Italo Spinelli. It is being reported that the storyline required the sexy Bengali girl to go full nude and this was the reason for Nandana's no. Although the sexy actress has no qualms about shedding her clothes as we have sen her exposing in Tango Charlie (and anticipating for more skin show in the upcoming Rang Rasiya)
The story of said flick is based on eminent Bengali writer Mahasweta Devi’s short story "Choli ke Picche". And Nandana was to enact a tribal woman whose primary dress is to wrap just a saree around her body without any bra or blouse.
Nandana explains, "It’s a powerful story and although I support it fully I feel the subject matter is such that the tribal girl's nudity cannot avoid becoming unintentionally voyeuristic and exoticised even though that is definitely not the objective."
Nandana make a very valid point here. This is not Hollywood. Indian actresses has to abide by some restrictions otherwise they may be labeled as ready to bare and may loose her career. Remember what Boom did to Katrina Kaif ? She had reinvent herself to get established in B Town.
Some trends are becoming eminent these days. Post Slumdog Millionaire more and more foreigners are being attracted to India and are keen to make movies here. And other trend is that they have to limit their expression of creativity as Indian babes are not going to bare it all. In recent past, Freida Pinto had refused nude offer. Moreover, Neetu Chandra too refused an offshore movie offer just because of nudity.
