Dus Tola (2010) Hindi movie story review

All of us must have memories of the stories supported with morals in the end during our childhood. DUS TOLA is a kind of film which takes you back to those good old stories.

The film’s story is very similar to the 1998 Malayalam film. Debutante Director Ajoy narrates a simple story with precision. It’s filled with funny moments. Although the writing is inconsistent, it still manages to have an impact.

Shankar (Manoj Bajpayee), the local goldsmith, is in love with his neighbour’s daughter Suvarnalata (Aarti Chhabria). But her father Daya Shastri (Dilip Prabahvalkar) is completely against the relationship. He wants Suvarnalata to marry a rich guy from Dubai. Suvarnalata convinces Shankar to make a dus tola haar (necklace) to change his father’s mind about their relationship. Shankar spends all his money and gives her the necklace. But his plan backfires as Suvarnalata betrays him and marries Ravi (Siddarth Makkar) from Dubai. Will Shankar be able to get over this and obtain his necklace back is what ensues.

DUS TOLA is smeared by a sluggish first half, which barely takes the story ahead. It picks up post interval where it gets you involved. You really feel for Shankar after all the ordeal that he has gone through. It has a commendable twist in the second half. The climax is undoubtedly the film’s highlight and surely make you smile.

Manoj Bajpayee is excellent. He performs his role with full conviction. Note the scene in which he breaks down before the interval. Aarti Chabria is okay. Govind Namdev is good. Ninad Kamat gives a fine performance. Vidya Malvade’s cameo is uproarious. Pallavi Sharda charms with her simplicity. Dilip Prabhavalkar suits the role perfectly. Asif Basra is impressive while Siddharth Makkar is average.
